  1. Council probably won’t consider using an existing road because that wouldn’t feel as impactful as chopping down a bunch of trees and paving a new path through the woods. Hey, one way to get people into nature is to build a road through the forest.

Maybe it’s time to institute a ‘no net increase’ of roads and paths. Build one/lose one. Federal legislature and the City bylaw office could use the same rule.

  2. Where did the citizen propose the trail go along the road? in the road as a bike lane? Next to the road like a sidewalk? What is the grade up the road? Is cheap the only way to go? Your reference to the spur and cost of 60K makes one feel like the total would be 60K, that’s only 240 feet long. There would need to be a build-out for the trail somewhere along the Chinook Drive at a length of 2160 feet. It’s not free along a road so 2160 x maybe $120/ft is $260K plus the pother fixed costs of construction and design might bring it up to close to $550K. Devil is in the details.

    • Mike,

Where are you getting your facts? Who do you represent? – MIC, Contractor, City Staff or Stakeholder Group?
