  1. Fire is a useful and cost-effective tool for forest maintenance and grassland maintenance. There are cautions and warnings, though. The conditions have to be right, and firebreaks need to be created – sometimes with back-fires.
    It may be the case that “wildfire” is a poorly chosen term for a controlled burn…which certainly can become a wildfire, though. A well-run fire can be labor intensive, monitoring and controlling the edges of the fire so it does not become a wildfire. Quenching the hot spots after the fire has passed through an area can also be labor intensive, depending on the number of hot spots.
