Monitor launches online video archive of Duluth parks

On the City of Duluth’s website, the Parks and Recreation Department states that the city has 162 parks. When the Monitor encountered this claim, we were unable to think of even half that many. In July of 2025, we launched a project to visit each of the city’s 162 parks and share a short video of each with our readers.

We opted to visit the parks from smallest to largest. To date, we have visited 73 of them—Fountain of the Wind (#162—0.06 acres) through Russell Square (#90—2.75 acres).

Many of the parks on the city’s list are not what one would normally consider parks. Some are traffic medians and others are unmaintained city lots. However, as we advance up the list and the parks grow larger, we are seeing more recognizable parks appear.

For subscribers, we have created a map of the city, showing the parks we have visited to date, along with video links and notes for each. Additional parks will be added to the map as we document them.

Please click on the map image below for more information on featured parks.

When the project has been completed, the Monitor will follow up with a summary of our findings.
