  1. Splendid bit of work and digging! I am impressed with your tenacity. I’ve known for a few years that Chris is dirty, but no way to pin anything down. His business with “Mr. O” confirms his lack of judgement and forthrightness. Listening to O’s podcasts tells me that I would not buy a used car from him. He is working a con of some kind and subtle little warning flags are shaking themselves off their staffs. Hoping you will continue to pursue this.

  2. As a Two Harbors resident, I cannot thank you enough for the in-depth investigation and report. Many locals have questioned our mayor’s business practices and ethics over the past several years, but this speaks volumes to his lack of integrity by showing the unscrupulous character of his mentor. Well done!

  3. Whew. Amazing work. Once again you do a great public service, for the citizens of Two Harbors this time. Very proud of you.

Mr. O’s vocabulary is . . . very small. And the few words he does know he uses over and over. How could anyone be taken in by him? That’s a rhetorical question.

    • Well done, John Ramos! I thought true journalism was dead, but you are breath of fresh air. This information is critical. Truth doesn’t need to hide. It’s the only thing standing when all lies fall.

  4. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU…………excellent work, Mr. Ramos…….we of this lovely little town of Two Harbors have long been concerned and cynical about our mayor and his “business” practices. Your reporting, along with the excellent work of Jimmy Lovrien of the DNT, Kiki B and Kitty Mayo of the North Shore Journal and the brand-new Lake County Press respectively, have shed an absolutely lovely bright light upon the sleaze. I agree with Phyllis Ramos’ comments about Mr. O’s vocabulary……..it’s 10-year-old stuff when you’re throwing out comments about boogers and flatulence, for the goodness sake. Oh, and the 24-carat bullets with diamonds inside………please keep up the good work!

  5. Thank you for this article. The mayor of Two Harbors is about as crooked as they get. Just think about this for a minute, anyone with half a brain could figure out when you sit in that position you had better stay miles away from anything that might even have the slightest taste of conflict. Let’s look at all his family-owned rentals in town and what do you know, a lot of the improvements benefit said properties.

He is so deeply involved on all counts and even has the audacity to have a mailing address which is his personal home used on all counts. They always say crooks are some of the dumbest and here is their leader. Also watch the city council meetings, if I was one of those people I would be so mad that he sits there and lies to them bold face and then acts like it was all known. Typical Chris Swanson style. Not to mention, show the city attorney some respect and don’t sit there with your back to him as some kind of sad power move.

As far as I am concerned he should be immediately removed from office and have nothing to do with any of this until the investigation is complete.

  6. Here is the thing. I used to live in Two Harbors and I can tell you this: The town is totally flustered when it comes to navigating traffic for their glorious Heritage Days or anything that involves organization. People say they can bus everyone in, but imagine the sea of busses mixed in with the normal flow of traffic.

There is no way they could ever handle the Ship Show; I don’t care how much outside help they get. I also love the fact that this is all being planned before the proper permits are pulled and the fact the event is being organized by the Mayor’s daughter who has zero, and I mean zero, experience in hosting events, especially of this caliber. Looking from the outside, it is just unbelievable what is being passed through that council.

It is a textbook definition when it comes to conflict of interest and I wish the State Attorney would have had the guts to rule as such, but of course he passed the buck to the local level. The Mayor might want to think about getting better legal advice, as his current attorneys couldn’t handle a dog bite case.

Grab the popcorn. This is going to get good.

  7. How on earth does one figure that they can build a hotel within one of the Great Lakes which is regulated by the government? Isn’t this “crazy talk” that hotel rooms could be built below and above water, affecting temperature and pollution levels? And what tourist is going to be satisfied with looking out of this “fancy hotel window” and seeing nothing but lake bottom? So glad to hear that you have identified “Mr. O” who is attempting to keep himself from Alzheimer’s. That alone is worth billions!

  8. What an excellent piece of work! Maybe when the mayor is ousted, he can get a job in the White House telling Biden which way to go.

  9. Thank you for shedding some light on this murky situation. I see things much more clearly now. This whole thing is a fiasco, and the Mayor should be held accountable for these shady dealings.

  10. Thank you for your hard work finding this guy’s true identity. What a scam artist nutter. It was apparent to me he was a scammer from the beginning, when all this started coming out in the news, but thanks for finding the proof! Hopefully this will convince Mayor Swanson to cut ties completely.

  11. Wow.

My husband used to work for C.S. When we first met him, he seemed like a charismatic, faith-driven man. He would even lead his business meetings in prayer. As a Christian myself, that seemed like something great; little did we know it was all a front for deception. We ended up getting screwed over multiple times over the years. He made promises that he never kept, cheated us in little ways that went almost unnoticed at first, and after a while I started to feel really uneasy about him. He seemed to have no compassion, even forcing my husband to take calls and work from the hospital while I was in labor!

Eventually, my husband was fired out of the blue and that sent our family into a tailspin trying to find a new job. At first, I was angry, but now I’m very grateful that we aren’t associated with his companies anymore. Seems we got out just in time.

  12. Great story and information on Mr. Daniel Hancock, AKA Mr. O.

Do you know his whereabouts? I’ve tried looking for him. I’ve always known he was a con man!
