  1. I stopped following the Monitor when you last semi-retired and I’m so glad I discovered you started writing on the Two Harbors fiasco. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen such detailed work from any of the ad-reliant journalism houses. Keep up the good work and good luck with the lawyers!

  2. I find it amusing that the lawyer, Brendan Tupa, who filed these lawsuits, has been let go by his well-respected employer after several letters from watchdog groups. Loose cannons sink ships! Sorry B, looks like frivolous lawsuits are a step too far (or a bar too low, haha?), even from one so accomplished as thyself. Maybe some ambulances need chasing.

What happens to the lawsuit when the filing lawyer has been booted in disgrace? Time will tell.

And then Mayor Swanson will almost certainly be unceremoniously punted with little recourse or experience for a respectable job. Maybe he can join scam-master Mr. O and scam his way back into our hearts and minds. Or work for his brother at the Bluefin. Just, um, maybe not the cash register…

  3. Look at yourself, shouting out to him like you’re a big-shot high school senior jock with a chip on your shoulder, and then how you chased him out of the assembly. How embarrassing for you. Pathetic, troll-like, and unbecoming of any serious professional. Sensationalist paparazzi is a more apt title than journalist for you. Check yourself–your behavior reeks of desperation and panic. But why? And why don’t you focus on Duluth anymore?

    • I agree Stu. Mr. Ramos is a luddite reporter; emboldened by the mob and motivated by clicks here at the Moniturd. The reason this incident reeks of panic is because Mr. Ramos didn’t get the reaction he was expecting with his hack ‘roller coaster’ line. In turn, he followed Chris out of the assembly, praying something of substance would occur, while continuing to accost Chris. It didn’t, so then he had to antagonize Chris’s wife with a comment. Is this what we call reporting now? Insulting a man’s wife in an attempt to incite a reaction from her husband. I thought this was ‘Karen’ behavior? So, with that, keep up the great work, Karen Ramos. Once this well dries up, you should hang out with your son instead of letting him earn more than you on YouTube.

    • Thank you for the kind words. I always appreciate hearing from my anonymous critics. It’s like listening to spring peepers in the evening.

I drove to Two Harbors with a plan to follow the mayor out of the room, if necessary to get answers. I wanted to show him that trying to silence the Monitor with a frivolous defamation lawsuit would instead result in the opposite.

Even so, he almost escaped. I had been sitting on the floor during the press conference, counting how many times the mayor called himself a visionary, when he said, “No questions!” and went running away. By the time I got up, he was already halfway out the door. Like most feral animals, he has a real survival instinct.

But karma stepped in on my side. Because the mayor had parked his vehicle near the back of City Hall, when he reached the end of the ramp outside, he had to COME BACK TOWARDS ME. Ha ha! When I saw that, I knew the universe was looking out for my interests. How sweet it was.

      Again, thank you, my peepers.

      • Good day Karen,
I’m not as anonymous as you may think, and at least I am within the city voting limits, unlike you TMZ junior. I’m sorry my history isn’t captured online for you to scroll through to bolster an article and present as fact. Also, no need to justify your bullying behavior. It’s expected of your “journalism” when you depend on clicks for revenue, which is displayed here entirely at the Moniturd. Finally, anonymous posters that support you are approved of, but detractors garner your response? I’m simply using my first amendment right Karen, which you should support as well.

Fair point about being attacked, funny how one reacts isn’t it? The difference is, you accost, chase, and chastise looking for a reaction, whereas the other brings in lawyers. I’m not saying either is right, I’m only pointing out hypocrisies. To lift from your pedantic diatribes, “It’s funny to see where people’s own brains will take them”. This includes you Karen, your response is in defense of what YOU feel is right, and I support that, but I don’t support antagonizing a man’s wife to garner attention.

Finally, while I don’t agree with everything Chris has done or said, I’m not willing to vilify and scrutinize every decision made. This is why vermin such as yourself, Karen, articles filled with speculation should be treated as they are, simply fodder, written to gain a following and perhaps pay for a nice dinner. I commend you on garnering this so called following, but I ask your readers to dig deeper than speculation and rumor. Allowing outsiders, such as yourself, Jimmy at the DNT, Colonel Sanders, and part-time residents to destroy our resilient community shouldn’t be tolerated. Nor should your mob mentality approach to gather more readers. Two Harbors is strong and doesn’t need a troll like you, Karen. Now go ask your son how to get more clicks, interest, eyeballs, and monetary funds for your gofundme.

        Thanks for your time Karen.

          • [This conspiratorial comment has been censored by the Duluth Monitor, because we feel like it. Our comment section is no democracy, young Stuart; it’s a benevolent dictatorship, overseen by us for the good of all.]

        • Kyle, I guess you were trying to be a writer. Try to use regular American language, without trying to seem like a smart person.

          • djamar, try reading a book, then you won’t have to live life like a dumb person. Do you understand that ‘American language’?

  4. What’s with the angst, Stu? The articles are all researched and documented- it’s not like anything is being fabricated from whole cloth. The best paparazzi sensationalism is sensationalism that’s true! So satisfying. Everybody loves a righteous comeuppance.

    But, um, cool comment, bro.
