  1. Why did communism fail? Spirit Mountain is a good example why. State controlled ski resort, with a bureaucratic web of power.
    I saw first hand the waste when there and SMRA needs to be in private hands to be a real employer for the city.

    I can say in the end of my employment at SMRA, the city of Duluth was an unfair employer. I guess the director can grab an employee and get away with it. Only in DFL duluth…:) But, I was happy to get a way from that place, both. Why did communism fail? Ask Don Ness was is his next step in the West Duluth build up, after that new chalet?

  2. Ski areas don’t make money via skiing. They make money by having a recreation in front of saleable building lots. The same is true for golf courses. The City of Duluth will always be in the hole for Spirit Mtn. The only issue is how much in the hole each year will be acceptable.
