  1. As always, follow the money. Who’s approving the funds, who’s paying, who’s benefitting? Skepticism and suspicion are helpful.

  2. The money trail, in this instance, is short. The money originates at the state or the city level, flows through Spirit Mountain, and disappears into a melee of grabbing engineers.

  3. Every person who skis Spirit Mountain gets how much money from Duluth, I wonder? Sorting out the coaster subsidies, just the subsidies for skiing and chalet…

I want to shake each of them for my money back.

  4. Solid reporting. Thank you! Too often the people’s government allows “consultants” to drive the public agenda. Johnson Controls, wasn’t that the firm that cooked up the school district red plan?

    • Not only was Johnson Controls the company that pushed the infamous Red Plan, the person mentioned in the article, Jeff Schiltz, was one of those doing the pushing. He was promoting the Spirit Mountain Master Plan and the School District Red Plan simultaneously. Both efforts ended up quite well for him, if not necessarily for others.

  5. Consultants suck up money like vacuum cleaners. How useful are they, really? How hard can it be to build water and sewer treatment plants? A few pipes, some glue, and there you go. Parasites.
